TGIF!!!!

Happy Friday!!!
I am soooo glad this week is about over. This has been such a tough week for me. I am sooo tired of hobbling around and having my ankle hurt like crazy.
My boys come home tonight, after a fun filled week with my sis-YAAA!!! I have missed them so much-but I think that they have stayed so busy and had so much fun that I haven't really crossed their minds. They have called me but I think they just wanted to brag about their week. They claim to "miss" me-Yeah right :) I will be so very happy to see them.
OK-So for our weekend photos- Well, since I can't really get up and walk around I am just going to take pictures of whatever happens to be around me and I think I may do a craft, read a book or something-I have no idea yet.
Speaking of reading- I just read a really good book, so I thought that I would share.
Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella (the author that writes the Shopoholic books and many others) This book is wonderful. I loved it-This is one of the best reads that I have had in awhile. This book is sweet, funny and sad all wrapped up into one. If you haven't heard of Sophie Kinsella or read any of her books you should totally check it out-She is amazing and you will laugh your butt off :)

Happy Day!!

Hello!!! I know it has taken me forever this week-But in my defense I hurt my ankle on Saturday so this week has been alittle difficult for me. Anyways-I took my boys to my sisters over the weekend. We didn't do anything super special so I just took some random pictures to share.

I thought these were kind of cool. The first one is a picture of a camera stand-it reminds me of The Nightmare Before Christmas. The second one is a spatula.

Aside from hurting myself we had a pretty good weekend. I miss my boys like crazy. They called me yesterday to let me know that they are having a blast with their aunt, so I guess that is what matters. It sure beats them sitting in the house all day playing video games and being on the computer.

Anywho-I hope we all enjoy the rest of our week.

The Weekend is here!!!

Happy Friday one and all!!! My week was pretty nice and peaceful, hope yours was too. This afternoon I am taking my boys to my sister's house. She is taking them for a week of fun. They are so excited about going, it will be nice to have -me time- but it is always SOOOO quiet when they are gone and I miss them like crazy. Hopefully they won't run her too ragged :)
We have decided once again not to have a "real" challenge. We will just blog about our weekend and post pictures of that. Weekend in my case and week in hers. So everyone-Get out and make the most of your weekend-No matter what you have or need to do!!! Make it FUN and try to have a BLAST!!!

Ok- I am not going to make excuses-Except that I have been really busy this morning and I still am, so this will be a very quick post-SORRY :)

Happy Monday to everyone!!! I hope everyone had a great weekend. I did-Mine was very busy. We went to the lake on Friday and went to a friend's pool on Saturday. The sun seriously drained me, I think I am still feeling it alittle today. But that is totally ok-we had a BLAST!!!!

Weekend results

Good morning and happy Monday everyone! I had a pretty good, albeit too short, weekend. But seriously, aren't they always? Too short I mean. I did 3 things this weekend, but I was only able to photograph 2 of them. The one I didn't photograph got a little R-rated and that is not the kind of blog we wanted to have.

Let me 'splain... On Saturday we were invited to go to a local ATV park and go 4-wheeling. It sounded like a good time so we went. It turns out that all the local kids decided to go too and they put on quite a show. There was drugs, alcohol, and nudity galore. We didn't stick around too much longer after that. I am a little old to get a ticket for whatever they would have ticketed me for.

The 2 G-rated things I did I will post pictures of. I am going a little out of order so please bear with me a minute. Sunday night I went to see Wicked. It is an awesome show. The book is great and so is the musical. They don't let you take pictures inside the theater so this is all I got. I hope it suffices.

Lastly, I completed all my sewing stuff and I have before and after pictures. Let me know what you think. Is it too much??

Here is a close up of the quilt throw I made with my pillow scraps. I found this quilt on http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/ and I decided to make it cause it was super simple. It is also a bit larger than the average throw. The size is somewhere between a baby blanket and a twin blanket. This is a great quilt to make if you are a beginner. It is also super easy to expand on if you want to make a larger quilt. You could even go smaller if you wanted. You might recognize some of the other fabrics I used in the quilt. The turquoise paisley fabric is left overs from the pillowcases I made. The only fabric I actually bought (not from a sewing project) was the green fabric. By the way, the quilt is folded in half in the pictures.

If you are interested in making this quilt then let me know. I will email you the pattern and give you some helpful pieces of advice to make the project easier.

Ooops!!!

Ooops!! Sorry everyone I forgot it was my turn to post our weekend challenge. I was in such a hurry to leave work and then I took my boys to the lake and wanted to get there as early as possible and so posting completely slipped my mind. Please oh please forgive me-I will definitely do better next time :) I know that we are so full of excuses here at Awesome Sisters-it seems be getting alittle ridiculous. When summer is over we should be back on track and have atleast a few less excuses. Anyways-I hope everyone has had a good weekend so far.

Picture slacking

I know I have really been slacking in the photo department, but I have had a sewing bug for the past few weeks and I am trying to run with it while I can.

I have all but two sofa pillows completed and those two are so close I might as well consider them completed. The quilt I am working on with the sofa pillow scraps is also very near completion. I quilted it last night so all I have left is binding it. I will show all you amateur quilters the final product and give instructions to help you make it. It really is a simple quilt. I had the quilt top completed in just a few hours. I fully expect to have the remaining two pillows and quilt completed by this weekend. You know what that means?? I will have before and after pictures for you on Monday.

I just wanted to let you all know that I am still working on my projects even if I am not posting proof of it.

I am BACK!!!

Good Morning everyone!!! Happy Monday!! Ugh-after a week of staying up late and seriously sleeping in-this morning was kind of tough on me. But I am up and I am here. How was everyones weekend? Mine was okay-I FINALLY finished defensive driving last night at about midnight. What I don't get is they claim that it is a 6 hour course but it actually lasted for 7. And they force you to take several breaks throughout. If I had known this I would of planned accordingly and would not had to of stayed up so late last night. MAJOR frustration-But YIPPEE I am done so I will not complain :).

Ok-So I don't know if you would call these abstract expression or not. I just took some random pics that I thought looked kinda cool so here they are.

It is about time! I thought my sis would never post her challenge results and I think I am having sister withdrawals. I haven't spoken or chatted with her all week. I am a little disappointed we didn't get any fireworks photos, but there is always next year.

I haven't been able to pick up my new quilt block of the month yet. The quilt shop I buy them from assures me they will be ready tomorrow. I did buy some of the materials I needed to finish my sofa pillows so I will work on those this weekend (I hope). I also started a new quilt using the scraps from the leftover sofa pillow fabric. I will use this as a throw for the living room since it matches. I know what you are thinking, I already have a dozen sewing projects going so why start another one. This quilt is actually pretty easy. The blocks are 8"x20" and they are sewn in a brick pattern. I chose this because it's easy and I wanted to use the scrap fabric for something. I cannot wait until I get it all finished and I can show you all. I think it is going to look awesome.

About our weekend challenge. Since I am the only one working I guess it is up to me to decide what we are doing. I have some family coming to stay this weekend so I don't know how much time I will have to work on a challenge. Because of that I guess I will keep it simple and just select one subject. I like abstract art so that is what I'm choosing. Our weekend challenge is abstract artistic expression. Play around with your camera settings and see what happens. Post your best shots on Monday. I will call my sis and let her know so she won't be left in the dark.

I promise, I didn't forget YOU!!!

HELLO, EVERYONE!!!! How is everyone's week going? Mine has been okay. I took this week off from work and this is the first time I have gotten on the computer. Wait I take that back-I have been on because I have had to do lovely defensive driving-UGH BORING!!! Other than that I have avoided the computer like the plague. Sorry it has taken me so long to post this week but I have been trying to hang out with the kids. Pretty much everything that I have wanted to do has not happened thanks to the rain. I don't get it-It won't rain forever and then you plan something outside and then it comes a downpour. But enough of that :)
I hope everyones 4th was great and safe. Mine was a blast there is nothing funnier or scarier than watching a bunch of teens lighting fireworks. My battery was dead so unfortunately I did not get any pics of that. I did however get pictures of other things so don't you worry your little heart over that.
First things first-The color drip pics, I seriously cropped them because I thought they looked cooler that way:

Guess what?!! Surprise, surprise I finally completed the sewing project!! YIPPEE for me :) It was actually really easy so I really have no excuse for putting it off for so long.
But bad news while ironing and trying to make them look all nice and pretty I kinda melted the yellow/blue one so now it has a nice lovely iron print on it-I guess that is what I get for waiting until the last minute. Have no fear though I will go and get some more fabric and make another to take its place. (Hopefully it won't take me as long this time). With my scraps I cut squares and started sewing them together-I have no idea what I am going to do with it but I like the way it looks:

Ok-now onto a totally nonrelated topic-Who has seen Eclipse? Were you as disappointed and as impressed as I was? It is crazy how much one movie can make you so mad and pleased all at the same time. For me it has been the same with each movie that they make. I was hoping that it would be like Harry Potter-you know get better and better with each movie. But NOOO-with each movie I am always the same amount of disappointed and impressed as I was with the previous movie. Ok I know enough of my ranting. Everyone enjoy your Friday and the weekend to come-I totally plan on it. I will have to get with my sis to see if we are doing anything for this weekend-Even if we don't I will get on here Monday just to check up on everyone's weekend.

Inky Blots!

Happy Tuesday everyone! Did you guys have a safe and fun holiday weekend? Any missing fingers or toes?? I hope not cause seriously, fireworks can be dangerous. That is why I watch while others light. If there is going to be an accident it isn't going to be me getting hurt. Selfish, I know. I thought about taking pictures of the fireworks after they had all been shot off. I am a bit sad cause fireworks pictures are awesome. I bet my sis got a few good ones cause she rocks like that. Speaking of my sis... She is off this week and I miss her already :(


Well, I took my ink pictures and they were pretty easy. I set my camera up on a tripod with the lens zoomed and focused on the glass of water. Then I just dropped my food coloring in and started snapping away. I like the purple and blue ink together. If you took art class then you know that mixing some cool colors (like purple or green) with some warm colors causes a brownish color. I have posted three pictures so you can see the progression. The ink is heavy so it sits at the bottom of the glass. I actually did 2 rounds of this. Fill glass, drop in ink, empty and rinse glass, repeat.



As for the rest of my weekend, it was pretty easy going. I did get a lot of my sewing done, but I didn't take pictures because I am not finished. Hold on, before you get upset I have a good reason. I ran out of stuffing and I didn't have the right color thread for finishing the pillows. So, I have 5 of my 8 pillow forms completed and those 5 are in the pillow case just waiting for me to get some red thread to close up the bottom. I didn't want to take pictures of the unfinished product because it might take away from the awesomeness of the finished picture.


I didn't get to work on my quilt block of the month. The quilt shop I buy the squares from is a little behind and they aren't distributing the squares until the 10th. It sucks, I know, but it also gives me more time to finish my sofa pillows. I think I will stop at the store tonight and buy another bag of stuffing (my 4th bag) and some red thread. You know what?? I started making my own pillows cause all the pillows I found at the store were so expensive. They run about $25-$30 per pillow and to replace all my sofa pillows would cost hundreds. In the end I think making my own cost more. Oh well, lesson learned.


Well, enough outta me. I can't wait to see my sis's pictures. She had better not make me wait until next week. Have a great week everyone and remember... It is already Tuesday!

Happy Independence Day weekend!!

Hey everyone! I am uber excited to have a 3 day weekend and I know you all are too. What's not to love? We get one extra day to work on our challenge and one less day in the work week. That makes two bonuses to an already awesome holiday weekend. Speaking of challenges...

The first of our challenge is going to be photos of ink in water. It looked pretty cool and hopefully it won't be too difficult. I would think a tripod would be the key to awesomeness for this challenge.

Second, finish and photograph your sewing projects. I know this isn't very artsy but hopefully it will motivate some of us (ahem!) to finish our sewing projects.. Sorry, I had something in my throat.

And if I may get a little sentimental for a moment..

Don't forget why we are celebrating this weekend (it isn't cause we get a day off work). We are celebrating our freedom from oppression, the creation of this great nation and our independence. If you see a soldier don't forget to thank them for protecting our freedoms and our independence. It is thanks to them that we are able to live and thrive in this free country.

Soo.. Give a hoot, don't pollute and have a safe and happy holiday weekend!
